I remember both Willow and Krull... both entertaining flicks. I also remember enjoying Dragon Slayer, First Knight and Time Bandits.

The cartoon version you refer to is "Lord of the Rings" animated by Ralph Bakshi. (not sure of spelling) It is available on DVD. Most LOTR fans consider it to be inferior, it leaves out even more than the Peter Jackson movies. This movie goes up to the middle of "Two Towers" and ends with the victory at Helm's Deep. Bakshi planned a 2nd movie to finish the story, but this one was totally panned by reviewers and tanked at the box office, so he didn't finish the tale. Some nice visuals, though.

Speaking of Ralph Bakshi, does anyone remember Wizards? Came out in the late '70s. Pretty good movie. I have yet to see this one on DVD. A special edition would be very nice.

If anyone knows it, the Anime "Princess Mononoke". Oh and shawn, the LotR trickflick you mean probably is the Bakshi movie from around the 80ies. Saw that one as a child to and liked it but upon seeing it a second time, it just sucked.

Look here for further info about it.

Labyrinth
Monty Python & The Holy Grail
Army of Darkness
Fellowship of the Ring (just for the wow factor)

Gladiator and Troy are not medieval movies. Jesus, I am surprised nobody proposed Gundam Wing yet.
